Chiropractic is a branch of the healing arts concerned with the restoration of the spinal column and its related structures; founded on the conclusion that structural dysfunction affects general health via the central nervous system which is primarily encased within the spinal vertebrae.
Chiropractors look at how the joints, muscles and nervous system interact, and seek to correct any structural imbalances or dysfunctions that often present themselves as aches, pains and psychological stress. Non-invasive physical techniques are used to encourage the body’s natural ability to self-heal. Rehabilitation, client education and lifestyle modification are also considered to enhance and prolong recovery, and sustain preventative health measures.
More on Chiropractic
Chiropractic treatment is not reserved solely for those suffering with aches and pains. This highly effective practice takes the form of preventative healthcare to enable the body to effectively deal with daily stressors.
The basis of chiropractic treatment involves manipulation. This is where a stiff joint is taken to the end of its (limited) movement, and an impulse is specifically applied to free the joint. Other techniques are also used including, mobilisation, massage and many types of stretches.
Chiropractic treatment at The Hale Clinic involves high quality aromatherapy oils, including lavender, rosemary and arnica, applied in conjunction with ‘active release techniques’ (active contraction of the muscles, coupled with deep massage strokes) to achieve fast and long term muscle relaxation. An Activator may also be used, which is a small tool that applies a direct measured impulse to a joint, and is a useful alternative to manipulation. As an adjunctive therapy, dry needling (acupuncture) may be used when appropriate.
On presentation to the Hale Clinic a form will be provided to take personal details and basic medical history. A full case history will then be taken as part of the initial consultation, regarding the symptoms you are presenting with, including other pertinent medical questions. You will then undergo a full physical examination involving postural assessment, motion palpation and a thorough orthopaedic and neurological exam.
An explanation of the findings and diagnosis will be provided, and with consent treatment will commence immediately. If the diagnosis is a condition that cannot be treated, you may be referred accordingly; to your GP, a fellow health care practitioner such as an acupuncturist, podiatrist etc or perhaps very rarely hospital, should the condition be an emergency.
Common ailments that chiropractic treatment can effectively treat are: Neck pain, Back pain, Frozen shoulder, Hip problems, Knee pain, Tennis elbow, Foot and ankle pain, Arm pain/pins and needles, Cervicogenic headaches/Migraine, Sports injuries
