The Bowen Technique
The Bowen technique is a non-invasive, gentle, yet powerful form of bodywork that allows the body to reset and utilise its self healing mechanisms; restoring optimum physiological functioning, and thereby general good health and wellbeing.
Generally, the Bowen technique induces a deep level of relaxation which can have beneficial effects on all physiological systems to encourage harmonious function, health and wellbeing.

More on The Bowen Technique
This process is facilitated by specific Bowen techniques where the practitioner’s thumbs and fingers use precise rolling type moves on specific areas of the body. As our bodies are made up of 75% water, when a Bowen move is made, it creates a disturbance in the fascia which has a vibration or ripple effect through the body. This stimulates the nervous system, enabling it to send messages to the brain, telling it what state the body is in. The brain is then able to assimilate this information and send the appropriate response to the body for the body to correct itself. This correction helps to release the problem area and enable it to return to its original blueprint of health. Only a few moves are made so as not to over stimulate, as the body heals itself. To support this action, during treatment there are a series of short breaks where the client is left to rest, to allow an opportunity for the body to make its necessary responses.
The Bowen Technique has a strong influence on the parasympathetic nervous system which is also known as ‘rest and digest’ as it helps the body to calm down and heal. It is for this reason that the Bowen Technique not only helps with musculoskeletal aches and pains, it also has very positive results in helping with digestive, respiratory and reproductive problems, as well as improving sleep, depression and our immune system.
The individual may want to receive Bowen technique for general health maintenance or specifically to aid a physical, mental or emotional healing process. Recommended sessions therefore pertain to the individual’s reasons for seeking Bowen therapy, although generally most clients find that a small number of treatments are adequate, even for long standing complaints.
The Bowen technique is considered safe to use on anyone, from new born babies to the elderly, pre and post operative and in palliative care. Sports professionals have shown consistently higher performance output and an accelerated rate of recovery from injury after Bowen treatments. The treatment requires the client to lie down on a treatment bed, and the client is fully clothed at all times.
Common conditions helped by the Bowen technique include: back and neck pain; knee problems; respiratory problems; asthma; sports injuries; infant colic; stress and anxiety; repetitive strain injury (RSI); frozen shoulder; tennis elbow; migraines IBS; tilted pelvis; acute and chronic fatigue.
