Craniosacral therapy is a non-invasive treatment which involves the light touch of the therapist’s hands for both diagnosis and treatment. Contact may be made at the cranium and the sacrum to identify any disturbances in the body. The therapist monitors the craniosacral rhythm to identify restrictions and tensions within the body; once these points of tension have been encountered, the therapist then works to facilitate their release.
More on Craniosacral Therapy
Our body’s tissues, as a result of physical, mental and emotional stressors, contract. In severe incidences, the tissues remain contracted, storing the strains, tensions or traumas they have been submitted to. These blockages restrict the body’s functioning and flow of organisational intelligence, which may give rise to developing health problems over the years.
By valuing health as something active, rather than an absence of disease, Craniosacral Therapy commits to treating the human organism, rather than the conditions and symptoms it may be presenting. The complex nature of the living human organism requires a tremendous level of internal organisation to sustain good health. Good internal organisation enables the body’s self healing mechanisms to operate at optimum level; thereby empowering the individual to ownership of good health.
Dis-organisation can occur when the organism encounters physical, mental or emotional stress. By working with the craniosacral system - which starts at the cranium and continues down the spine finishing at the sacrum, influencing the musculoskeletal, immune, endocrine, nervous, cardiovascular and respiratory systems, as well as the organs, the connective tissues, the fluids and the energy systems of the body - the practitioner is able to facilitate the internal ordering principles, to aid physical mental and emotional equilibrium.
Treatment is generally relaxing and pleasant, creating a sense of calm and well-being. As a client, you may become aware of subtle bodily sensations; existing imbalances within the body may become amplified; and feelings of new freedom and balance may be experienced. You may choose to express these sensations to the therapist during treatment or you can discuss your experiences after the treatment has finished.
Craniosacral therapy is a client led treatment where your body will set the pace of work so you remain comfortable, in control, and able to integrate the changes that occur. Some clients find that it can take a few sessions to get used to the sensations they are feeling. For these reasons you may need to consider having a series of treatments to gain full benefits of this work and its cumulative effects.
As Craniosacral therapy is a whole body therapy, treatment may aid almost every condition including: arthritis; asthma; autism; back pain; birth trauma; cerebral Palsy; colic; depression; digestive problems; drug withdrawal; dyslexia; exhaustion; frozen shoulder; hormonal imbalances; hyperactivity; immune system disorders; insomnia; lethargy; menstrual pain, PMS; migraine; post operative; problems during and after pregnancy; reintegration after accidents; fall or injury; sciatica; sinusitis; spinal curvatures; sports injuries; stress related illness; tinnitus and middle ear problems; TMJ (jaw) disorders; visual disturbances and whiplash injuries.
