Physiotherapy
Physiotherapy is a science-based healthcare profession which uses physical approaches to promote, maintain and restore physical, psychological and social well-being, with taking into account variations in health status. Chartered Physiotherapists combine their knowledge, skills and approach to improve a broad range of physical problems associated with different 'systems' of the body, in particular, the neuromuscular, musculoskeletal, cardiovascular and respiratory systems, and their related physiology. By maximising an individual’s ability to function; promotion and maintenance of health and wellbeing can be achieved.

An initial consultation will include taking full medical history, physical examination and discussion of findings. The physical examination is similar to a conventional medical consultation but with an in-depth look at the musculoskeletal (muscles, ligaments, joints etc) and neuromuscular (nerves, muscles) systems of the body. Sometimes referrals to other professionals is needed for X rays, scan s or further advice, and this will be discussed if deemed necessary.. If appropriate, a treatment plan will be made and realistic goals set and agreed between the practitioner and the client.
As well as providing physiotherapy treatment, preventative advice is also given to each client as fundamental to physiotherapists’ approach is an appreciation of the client’s role in their own care. Therefore, they aim to work with you to integrate your care into your lifestyle. Physiotherapy treatment may involve: exercise programmes; hydrotherapy (advice on how to exercise in water); manipulation and mobilisation; electrotherapy (e.g. ultrasound to speed up the healing process); acupuncture and massage.
